How Do I Deal with the Pain of My Past?

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” Isaiah 43:18-19

Everyone has pain in their past. Some wounds are visible; others are hidden. Some came from our own choices. Some came from what others did to us. Some came from losses, failures, regrets, disappointments, or seasons we wish we could forget. The danger is that we can begin to drag the pain of our past into every part of our future. We carry guilt, shame, regret, grief, rejection, or bitterness like a heavy burden on the road of life. Eventually, that burden blocks our ability to move forward.

The good news is that our past does not have to define us. Jesus can redeem what has been broken, heal what has been wounded, and restore what has been lost. We cannot change yesterday, but Christ can transform tomorrow.
